How We Choose What to Write About
Every article starts with a question a real reader sent, a dataset that told an unexpected story, or a policy change that will affect Kenyan wallets.
The editorial process at Sparkqpixel is deliberately narrow in scope. We do not chase news cycles or publish opinion pieces about global markets when the Kenyan angle is thin. An article earns its place in the queue when it meets one of three tests: it answers a specific financial question that has no good Kenyan-language resource yet; it surfaces data from CBK, KNBS, or the NSE that most readers would not encounter in their regular reading; or it translates an internationally established finance framework — say, the 50/30/20 budget rule — into KSh terms with realistic income benchmarks for Nairobi, Nakuru, and Mombasa. Articles that do not meet at least one test do not get published.

Building a KSh 500,000 Emergency Fund on a Variable Income
Variable earners — freelancers, commission-based salespeople, seasonal agribusiness workers — face a structurally different savings challenge. This guide maps a three-stage accumulation path that adjusts contribution size to monthly inflow, not a fixed amount.
What Subscribers Say After Reading
Honest feedback from readers who put the analysis to use.
“The T-bill versus money market article convinced me to ladder my Treasury investments rather than keep everything in one fund. Within two months I had a clearer picture of my actual yield, not the advertised rate. That distinction alone was worth the read.”
Samuel Kamau, Eldoret
